Rather than relying on a rigid formula, Blume follows a three-step method: analyze situations, prioritize responsibilities, and execute decisions strategically. He offers Porsche teams guidance but allows them room for entrepreneurial thinking. Blume views transformation as a long-term journey that requires adaptability and resilience. The automotive sector’s shift toward digitalization, sustainability, and electric mobility is the largest transformation the industry has seen. Porsche is about a third of the way through its 15-year transformation, focusing on electric mobility, renewable energy, and decarbonizing operations. The company’s strategy balances the pace of these shifts, keeping electric sports cars at the forefront while maintaining a diverse range of offerings, including hybrids and combustion engines.

The Role of Courage in Innovation
Blume highlights the courage needed to pioneer in electric mobility. In 2015, Porsche boldly entered the electric market with the development of the Taycan, despite industry skepticism. Since its debut, the Taycan has set new standards and achieved impressive milestones, including the production of 100,000 units by the end of 2022. This bold decision proved pivotal for Porsche, reinforcing Blume’s belief that successful transformation requires both vision and the bravery to challenge convention.

 

Porsche’s Commitment to Sustainability

For Blume, sustainability is a central element of Porsche’s identity and future vision. The company aims to achieve a net carbon-neutral value chain by 2030, and it’s working on initiatives such as high-performance battery cells through its subsidiary, Cellforce Group, and investment in eFuels. With an eFuel facility operational in Chile since 2022 and other innovative technologies in development, Porsche is driving toward its ambitious sustainability goals.
